Thankfully most of them just stay confined to the Arenas or to Barrens Chat, where they belong.

And I agree that these are all valid points, but we're missing what I think is one of the the biggest issues here, and that is balance.
You're creating a game that is attempting to appeal to a massive amount of human beings who ALL have different ideas about how a game should be, what they like in a game and what keeps them. You can't make a game focused on great stories and epic quests because Billy Bob just wants to sign in and smash the crap out of stuff. You can't just make a game for PEWPEWing everything in sight, because Karen Sue wants to read about the world's lore and history.
MMO creators have got to learn to balance a nice collection of elements to draw all types of players in and do their best to balance all aspects of a game. This INCLUDES making sure some of that **** works before releasing it!

The thing is, I was sure I'd find more trolls (along with more bots) in free MMOs. Why would people pay monthly to bother others? Same story with team Roomba for TF2 but then they only paid for the game once.
And yet, I've met next to no trolls in free MMOs and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of spammers.

2moons' bots were so bad that you could not, under any circumstances, chat in the local channel with anyone as bot spam would scroll faster than a crack addicted four year old running for the cocoa puffs. The moment you ignored one, there was a second one, the moment they did anything about the first one there was a third one--and by the time I moved on, it seemed like anyone working for those games or in it had sorta given up on the gold spam.
Some free MMORPG's are splendidly bereft of bots and gold spams due to community and excellent GM's/volunteers. Some make WoW look like heaven.
