Hello everyone,

I recently (after a few hours of searching and figuring out how it worked) was able to log in and play the Korean version of Hellgate London and in English no less. It seems that they have been keeping up on the english translation. It was a bit tricky to get in English and there very well may be a more effective way to do so. I am here to share with you how I was able to get on and play Hellgate in an attempt to see more English speaking players. First a list of current players I am aware of, post and I'll add you.

First you will need an account. Registering for an account requires a KSSN which you must live in Korea to have. There are ways to obtain one illegally, but I will not go into that for the sake of upholding any forum rules that may break. If it's illegal, I'm sure it's against the rules.

Once you have an account you'll need to go to http://hg.hanbiton.com/ and download the korean client. You can not use firefox because the downloader they use won't work.

After installing the Korean version make sure you open it up and login to get it fully updated.

After you update it you will need to copy two files in the hellgate/data folder from the english client to get it in English and then try to update and once updated delete them.

hellgate_localized000.dat
hellgate_localized000.idx

Copy the english language.dat and copy the language folder from the english version into the korean. You will need to edit or create a language.dat file that says Language=English if you can not find the file.

Note: When updating while the English files are in the data folder the game will not run properly and will be glitchy, this technique is only used to get Hellgate to download all the english files.

This will only net you a trial account that is very limited. You can subscribe by going to http://cn-usa.com and purchasing a Korea GT Card. If this ends up being popular or people want more info I will go into more detail on how to subscribe.

Uh, happy to commit identity theft? Face extradition to be put into a Korean prison? Some how I doubt any Hellgate fan is that dumb to do something like that.

While identity theft is dumb, it is not necessary to steal a KSSN if you have a Korean friend to make your account. Aside from that, using it to get a free trial account is hardly going to land you in prison, not saying it wouldn't get you in some trouble.

Yeah, it's identity theft because most of the KSSNs are lifted from personnel worksheets. Nobody gives a damn, though. The information isn't regarded as sensitive as a telephone number because Korean newspapers often publish KSSNs in the newspaper to announce contest winners and such. It's pretty dumb.

Hell yeah, I may or may not be enjoying Hellgate to the fullest right now. I might (or might not) have subscribed to it as well. I might be in Stonehenge

Hi Defessler,
I got a question concerning you playing on the korean Hellgate Server. I managed to create an account on the hanbiton site and was able to login in there and download the game and the patches. But now neither the login works nor can I apply the downloaded patches.

Do you have any hints on how to get it to work? Do I need to pay first or do I have to create a login specifically for the game?
