Gratuitous Space Battles
Gratuitous Space Battles is appropriately named.

Developer Positech Games from the UK is working on an offering that fans of Space RTS games
may find worth checking out. The focus in this game is on a blend of engineering discipline, formation, and macromanagement. This makes it kind of a spaced out polar opposite to the popular Company of Heroes RTS games which focused on tactics, economy/territory, and micromanagement.

There will be no moments in this game where you will hear, "You need additional pylons".

I, for one, look forward to some gratuitous space battles with my pinnacles of engineering charging into combat.

See the official announcement from the developer's site:

hm.. would be nice as part of some massive strategy game (like Galactic Civilizations, ...). This looks like some arena fights with lots and lots of flying stuff on screen. They should definitely improve sound effects.

Sins of a Solar Empire is nice, but the point of this game is that you don't have the mental overhead of dealing with an Empire/economy, or in the case of Company of Heroes esque games, territory capturing/defending.

It's just engineering prebattle, then strategic/formation decisions that an Armada commander would make in a space battle.

Can't shake the feeling with the top-down-only view that it's a Japanese arcade game. If they were going for visuals then why limit themselves there?

Its by a british company, i think the simple gameplay will be good. Customise alot of battleships then attack stuff. Reminds me of Battleships Forever.
