I hadn't heard about this game until recently, and when I heard it was in open beta, I jumped straight in. Now, I must confess I raised an eyebrow when I heard the concept. It's an RTS with a trading card system and no base-building. Cards are your units and your abilities, and you can get more cards by buying 'booster packs', pretty much like you would buy a packet of Magic: The Gathering cards. You need BattleForge points to buy those, and you have to pay real-life money for BF points.

The idea of inventing strange new creatures to use in fiction is an old one, what with Star Wars and Star Trek and Stargate and all. However, I feel that by now, we should have evolved a bit from this idea and realise that those we would like to call aliens, are in fact more at home in fantasy novels.

The definition of alien is :"differing in nature or character typically to the point of incompatibility". This difference in nature is often very small, and to better outline the point I'm making I…  More

Time ago, EA released a rather enigmatic trailer for a game based on Dante's Inferno, which is to be creatively called Dante's Inferno.

Now, I am in High School and I'm being forced to read it, study it etc. And the only question buzzing in my head is: what the Hell are they hoping to make? (no pun intended)

Let me start off. Dante explores Hell, and meets people so as to bring some memory of them to the outside world, he sees their punishments and all, but he is actually on a journey to retrieve …  More

[Disclaimer: Sorry people, no pun in the title this time, suggestions are welcome :P]

I've been thinking a bit today (hooray for my apathic mind) and have come up with a rather disquieting statistic. You see, I know quite a few people who are registered to Facebook and spend lots of time with it. And it's not just them, either. In June 2008 alone it got 132.1 MILLION unique visits. So if you thought WoW was big, think again. I know what you're going to argue here:"but facebook is a social network…  More

Very recently, I've been becoming bored, and I've done a little digging in my stash, to bring back a few memories. Now I'm not bored anymore. I've found three games (though aged they might be) which, to me, have planted the seeds for gaming to become what it is today, not to mention they are great fun.

Deus Ex
It should not be even in the questioning that this is not just a game, it's one of the greatest ever made. Now, if you can look past Unreal Engine 1, the embarassing textures and the rather …  More

Time ago Project_Xii reviewed CoD 3.5 (or World at War, if we want to) and said one of the truest things I ever heard. To sum it up, it goes like this: "you'll never get anything different, tried and tested works and sells and you'll never want change".

This is exactly how it's going right now for the industry. It seems that delivering a different game is risky, so nobody will do it. Sequels, on the other hand, are sure sales wether good or bad, so that's all we get.

I've been playing this game and having mixed feelings about it. On one side it's beautiful and spectacular, with great gameplay embedded in the beauty of it all. On the other it's frustrating and stupid, and often buggy.

I'll start off with the pros, the why this game makes you feel proud you're a gamer.
Think about this as Prince of Persia in a much more modern setting, with a much harsher penalty for failure. Done? Ok, let's move on. Forget about the all indoors PoP had. This game gives its best…  More

I didn't see this posted, and think I should talk about it, simply because it's quite an interesting thing.
as the article at kotaku.com says, Strauss Zelnick seemed very up on the idea of downloadable content and of subscriptions.

"The holy grail is taking a business, already a very large and successful business that's focused on packaged goods that you sell once and then are occasionally resold by others with new benefit to us, and turning that into a subscription business or a semi subscription…  More

We all know how games work. You risk for rewards, and if you fail you have to lose something. If you don't, then it's boring and easy. If you lose too much, then it's frustrating and, again, boring. Throughout time different games have tried different approaches to this, and yet few manage to keep the balance.

In grind-based RPGs (that is to say, 3/4 of the market), we use the old broken system of diablo2, as in: you die and lose money and exp. While this was a nuisance and felt right at first,…  More
