Quickies - Top Ten Coolest Moments

The Diablo games are renowned for their cool moments. Quests, scripted events, cut scenes and skills: all offering a plethora of fun things for us to oogle and yell "Holy crap!" at.

Time and graphics may have diminished some of them now, but we still have our fond memories. Not to mention a few new ones coming our way, if the D3 gameplay video has anything to say about it. Let's look at the Top Ten Coolest Moments from everything Diablo related we've seen so far.

And remember, if you think you know cooler ones, you're wrong, and probably thought Transformers was a good movie.

10. Your First Time Playing Hardcore
Wow. What a difference removing respawn makes. Suddenly the entire game changes, and we experience the one thing we love most about the Diablo series. True fear.

9. "The Zombie Gardens"
Anya wouldn't send us into a dangerous place straight off the bat. It looks quiet enough. The Zombies aren't moving... still not moving... I guess we can pass scott free! ... ... ... Oh crap.

8. Finding Unique Items
Nothing like pressing "˜alt' after a massive battle or a boss and seeing those lovely gold letters. Never gets old, even if the uniques themselves do.

7. Encountering Duriel
Alright, I'll just be going down to face Baal now HOLY CRAP WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? THAT'S NOT BAAL! RUN RUN AARRRRHH I'M FROZEN RUN RUN RUN!

6. Reaching Diablo 1's "Hell"
Are those walls filled with blood? Is that staircase made from bones?! Are those naked impaled bodies??! ... I'm going to need bigger weapons.

5. The Necromancer's "Corpse Explosion"
What better way to add insult to injury then to turn a monsters dead comrade into a lethal gore-filled bomb! Entire battlefields explode in glorious fountains of innards!

4. Returning to Tristram
Taking that red portal to the scene of Diablo 1 one was an awesome yet slightly eerie experience. The only thing that could have made it better is if they'd kept the layout the same... having the Monastery and Adria's shack to explore would have been a pleasant touch. But I guess we can settle for exploding cows, Zombie Griswold and pissing on Wirt's dead body.

3. The Fight Between Tyrael and Diablo
The best cinematic in the game not only features the final death throes of the Wanderer's soul, but a battle between Diablo, Tyrael and Baal all in one!

2. The Siege Beast Biting Off the Barbarians Head
The bit in the new gameplay video that made everyone go "WHOA!". Actual fatalities... we don't know how they're going to work or if they'll even remain in the game, but damn do they look good!

1. Opening the Butchers Door
Yes, the number one is getting a bit predictable now. But only cause its true! It's the only quest that still scares people, and makes them hesitant to complete. So tense, so scary, even all these years later. Once we open that door, there's no going back. You better hope there's a cage door nearby...
