I've read about people who "dual box" in Everquest and Dark Age of Camelot before, and it looks like this little bit of insanity has made its way to World of Warcraft. In case you're not familiar with the term, dual boxing is to basically control multiple characters on multiple computers simultaneously in an MMORPG.

The way I see it, World of Warcraft shares the same design mentality as Everquest. It's a game that's full of time sinks, gold sinks and other complete annoyances, like death penalties. That's not going to change because the people who play it enjoy it as part of the gameplay experience. It is however a huge hindrance to anyone who wants to simply PVP, explore or what have you.

I've never much liked the cow level in Diablo 2. I always felt like it pulled attention away from the rest of the game by giving everyone a single place to farm and grind, mitigating the importance of the other areas. It was never intended as a farm, being little more than an easter egg. But due to the design oversights of the Blizzard North team at the time, it soon became the only location in the game where one could viably level up at a "reasonable" pace.

Newly established company, Riot Games, have hired on some of the creators of the popular Warcraft 3 mod, DOTA Allstars, to create a new game called League of Legends.  

Google has announced its venture into game-based advertising via its official blog. 

 

The games that they’re targeting happen to be web-based games like the ones playable on InstantAction, and ‘social games’ like Google’s own Lively. Even the venerated Quake Live would fall under the definition of a ‘web game’.
