Game Informer

Game Informer has released its list of Top 200 games of all time to commemorate the magazine’s 200th issue, with a list of every game from Pong to Modern Warfare 2, across every platform. Amusingly enough, games like Ultima VII, Dragon Age, and the entire Monkey Island series are missing from this list, no doubt to accommodate all of the Mario and Zelda games released throughout the years.

Behold.

1. The Legend of Zelda [NES, 1987]
2. Super Mario Bros. [NES, 1985]
3. Tetris [PC, 1984]
4. Grand…  More

Final Fantasy 14

Speaking to MCVUK, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada says that the Final Fantasy publisher is making long-term preparations for the potential demise of console systems and physical media.

Wada stated that the company expects to see a dramatic shift within the coming decade towards digital downloads, transforming the traditional industry and essentially spelling the end of disc-based gaming.

“In ten years’ time, a lot of what we call ‘console games’ won’t exist,” said Wada, who warned that many big f…  More

I’ve ranted on the subject of MMO addiction on Hellforge several times, but I’ve always maintained that despite the “addictive” nature of games like World of Warcraft and other MMOs, the responsibility to play the games in moderation or simply quit ultimately rests on the player.

Contrary to these views, Kotaku reports that a guy by the name of Erik Estavillo has launched a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard over the game. He argues that the game developer “continues to maintain a harmful virt…  More

I wouldn’t recommend watching this if you’ve yet to play the game because it’s ridden with spoilers (as expected). It is, however, a humorous look at Modern Warfare 2’s absurd storyline, retold in a span of a minute.

Note: The Achievement isn’t real.…  More

Diablo III

Speaking to Blizzard’s Rob Pardo, Techland managed to dig out a couple of interesting, but disappointing details about the release schedule for Diablo III. Just don't expect the game to be released in 2010.

Techland asked why the game was taking so long to hit the shelves. “We always announce our games too early,” Pardo replied. “We realize that and go, ‘You know what? Next time we’re not going to do that.’ And then we always fail at that. But I’d rather fail at that than fail at making the gam…  More
Mass Effect 2

BioWare has re-launched the official Mass Effect 2 website with an entirely new design, showcasing some new Flash-powered features and an easy-to-navigate news section. The site has also been afforded new compatibility with BioWare’s social networking community.

With the launch of the new site, BioWare announced that the company’s social network has grown to a scale of 5 million registered users, with over 500 thousand users signing up within the past five weeks alone.

They explained that th…  More

Deus Ex 3 - No, MitchyD, Hilary Swank is pretty cute.

Speaking to Edge Magazine, Eidos Montreal’s Stephane D’Astous said that Square Enix’s Tokyo developers would be providing cinematics for the studio’s upcoming Deus Ex 3.

“Deus Ex 3 is going to be the first project which will be a concrete product of joint effort between Square Enix and Eidos,” said D’Astous, who explained that the cinematics would be in the form of fully rendered CGI.

Without going into too much detail, he mentioned that the Japanese animators would be working on the trailers …  More

Diablo II

Blizzard community manager Bashiok played the role of harbinger a few days ago when he made the sad (but not unexpected) announcement that the planned Patch 1.13, slated to add a bevy of new features into the decade-old Diablo II, would be seeing yet another delay after a series of delays attributed to the concurrent development of a Warcraft III patch and preexisting issues with the Battle.net system.

Update - 11/18
We've recently completed a revised version of the Diablo II 1.13 patch that re…  More
Diablo III Skill Tree

Blizzard is good, as always, at getting its fans to speculate about the changes and developments with their upcoming action RPG, Diablo III.

According to Blizzard’s official Twitter, the revision of Diablo III’s skill system is in full swing, with an announcement that skill trees are completely gone from the latest iteration.

Diablo: The skill system revision is in full force. Trees begone! I think it might be a winner. Jay says hi.

For those not in the know, Jay refers to Jay Wilson, the ga…  More

Left 4 Dead

A thoughtful poster by the name of redban has come up with a nifty little community effort on the Steam Powered forums called “Drawn 2 Life”, in which forum readers can each submit a character or an object from the Left 4 Dead series of games.

In the project’s rules, users don’t have to be Picasso, so most of the submissions are pretty damn bad. But still, some of them look pretty damn nice. For example, take the poster above, which features an imagined Left 4 Dead campaign that features a Fran…  More
