According to rumors on the internet (via Destructoid), Visceral Games, the company responsible for Dead Space and the upcoming Dante’s Inferno are developing a game based on the infamous real world 19th century serial killer, Jack the Ripper.
Unlike From Hell or similar fiction based on Jack the Ripper, players in the upcoming game (dubbed The Ripper) step into the shoes of the murderer instead of playing the role of Sherlock Holmes or some other character. Subverting what we know of history, Jack the Ripper will be portrayed as a hero (or perhaps anti-hero), killing simply to save the lives of others.
The Ripper is described as a “supernatural slayer protecting people from demons, vampires and other evil monsters” with an arsenal of weapons at his disposal and the ability to slow down time. With such original concepts, I expect certain members of the gaming media to hail The Ripper as the Citizen Kane of third person shooters.
Feel free to share your thoughts on this.

I have a feeling this will be banned in many countries and be criticised to death faster than you can say "will this make it?". Interesting idea, though, the last I saw of the ripper was in waxworks.

So, in other words, if they didn't call the guy jack the ripper, it'd be a fantasy period piece where you murder evil creatures? It actually still sounds like a game I'd play. Yay for gimmicks not being the only selling point.
