I'd be a liar if I said that I enjoyed Resident Evil 5 from start to finish, because I didn't. The well documented issues with the controls, interface and atrociously annoying inventory aside, the game is actually quite a blast, especially in co-op mode with another player. These little problems with the game are merely issues that you'll deal with and and not find to be too much of a hassle.
No, these well documented complaints isn't what ruins the game for me. Resident Evil 5 is, for the most part, a brilliant game packed with powerful sequences of adrenaline pumping action intense visuals. The one and only thing that kills me about Resident Evil 5, at least for me, is its final boss fight. It is like a nasty, maggot-ridden wound on an otherwise beautiful face. Were the game a person, it would cry out for a bandage.
I could simply say that it sucks and leave it at that, without spoiling much of anything, but I have to explain what happens and why it sucks.
Throughout the game, you're given the ability to buy weapons, healing sprays and an assortment of upgrades for said weapons with spoils acquired from killing monsters, finding hidden gems or collecting various loot from chests and barrels scattered all about. This is all well and good, except for the fact that you can't buy ammunition.
You rely on ammunition by killing random monsters that may randomly drop ammunition, healing herbs or grenades. Again, it all sounds well and good until you keep getting ammo for your handgun when what you really need is ammo for your sniper rifle or automatic rifle. Once again, this isn't a big deal in 15 of the game's 16 missions because you'll always find more lying around the next corner.
Enter the game's final battle: you've probably just depleted most of your ammunition in the long cargo hold battle against a horde of infected, as well as the battle against the gigantic worm thing prior to the penultimate battle, and even more on that immortal prick Wesker in the long fight prior to the finale itself. If you've been saving up ammunition throughout the game, chances are you'll have very little left once all that is through.
At this point, you may think that you're home free, but you aren't, as you find yourself on some lava outcropping faced against a souped up version of the king of the bastards yet again after a long, and pretty awesome cinematic sequence. That's the last good impression you'll have of the game, so cherish the memory.

The ending was a bit silly, but nothing could ruin this game for me. In fact, I'm going to go work on my 5th play-through now :P

Wow. Sucks to be you, Sol :p
I loved the final volcano level. It was fun and frantic. I loved that rock sequence, though I actually made it easier for myself because I did it first by accident, way before Wesker started stalking Sheva. Was thinking "Man, that rock was hard. But why can't I walk over it now?..... oh that's why"
And I think the game assumes that you have been saving ammo for the final fight... as is common sense. Funnily enough I didn't have any problems with him at all :/ Might have been luck I spose.
Meh, I enjoyed RE5, even if it wasn't really a Resident Evil game anymore. I had problems with the controls for about 20 mins, but at some point during the first huge battle in the town, it all clicked and became natural. I think it helps if you've played all through RE4. You get into the groove of things much faster.
Play online for a bit, you might enjoy that. The co-op is very well down.

I was playing it in co-op with my friend on XBox Live. I suspect that the problem we had with Sheva holding onto the ledge was due to the fact that the game might've been reading my keypresses 200-400ms slower than they would locally so pressing it like mad didn't help me at all. I still fell.
I quite honestly wish that the game gave us some ammo at the end so we weren't so screwed right off the bat. The sad part about the ledge issue is that even if we did manage to bypass it we wouldn't be able to kill Wesker due to lack of ammo.

You could finish him with a knife. Once you get to the raised platform its ezmode even if you have zilch ammo. Where is your drive to win sol?!

Ok, you realise that your ammo and your guns stay with you reguardless of what level your in right? you could easily just redo a level and, instead of wasting all your ammo needlessly, conserve your ammo. Once you have enough money and ammo, try the last boss again.
What are you doing bringing a handgun to the last boss anyway it's a waste of intentory at that point really. Bring a shotgun, sniper rifle, magnum or a grenade launcher instead.

Chapter 2 when your get the first machine gun in the metal silver case and shoot ur first RSAA emblem, that part of the stage repeat it over and over open the case break the crates climb up to the platform open the chest I repeated that for over 2 hours and had 999 SG 999 HG 999 MG and extra left over on the side. and keep taking the machine gun and exit game and come back in to where you remove all your items and at the end of the day you will have about 50 machine guns which u can sell and make 1500$ off it and also get 40 MG Bullets from each.
Last boss fight was easy as FUUCKK except for the fact that shevas dumbazz kept dying and not following me.

What amazes me is I played this sequence twice with two different people and both time we did it different to how you describe. Que the running. Sheva runs and falls and taps square like mental, I play as Chris, chesse it straight to the boulder and knock it into the lava, all the while wesker is closing in on me, once the boulder is in I turn and fire on wesker, sheva joins me and we both shoot as he walks at us, when our shots stun him we both run past and presto, final battle on the platform.
With regards to the finale, first time I jumped on his back and pulled his chest open while sheva shot (reducing me Health drastically), second time, sheva used her knife then I joined in and it was gorey glory!

I know exactly what you mean, though my friend and I did this battle in co-op mode without any ammo. Well - I think he had maybe a dozen handgun bullets left, and I had one or two shotgun shells, but in the end it came down to the knife. It seemed to work alright once we realised that it was possible and that we were hurting the git, but working that out was the initial problem.
