I'm happy to see Final Fantasy III so high on the list. It is, without a doubt, my favorite game of all time.

And am I the only one who has never played Ms. Pac-Man? wtf?

this list is pure junk, i was gonna go make suggestions to what was wrong but the list is just terrible
like extremely horrible

games like quake quake 3, syndicate, jagged alliance, master of magic, total annihilation, terror from the deep missing its extremely horrible.

were is ultima online?

this list is just bad beyond anything i've seen before regarding to top lists

were is dune 2?

then fallout 2 is also missing, and both 1 and 2 are better than 3 its seriously seriously bad.

half life 2 best fps of all time you gotta be kidding me. jesus christ

Even having never played Dune 2, I know that should be on the list!  UO not on the list?!  no Syndicate?

Seems to me that the list had a lot more people proposing and pushing for console games than PC.

Much as I love UFO, TFTD is not worthy of a Top 200 list.

hmm i think it should but truly there are many great games, i preffered it to the original as it was much harder.

although not so much innovative about it, however looking at the list TFTD is at least better than 100 of those tittles up there

I think people refuse to realise that unlike movies, games don't get better with age.  Sure, Legend of Zelda on NES was cool at the time, but try playing it now, it is fun and all but Ocarina of Time is better by leagues.  Likewise, Super Mario Brothers launched a gaming icon, but Super Mario Galaxy was nothing short of spectacular.  Whenever anyone does a "X best games" list they should actually the best games, not the best games relative to when they were released.  The beauty of games is they get bigger, better and more polished as time goes on.  God of War was amazing, but God of War 2 bettered it in almost every way.  This whole lists reads like one big nostalgia circle-jerk.

It's all relative to the criteria of the list. I'm sure innovation & revolution is considered in this list. You would be correct if this was based on the "overall package" then only newer games would be considered. But clearly this list is not the case. Perhaps you should make your own list if you have qualms with innovation being taken into account.

The list considers things like cultural impact; it's not all about the gameplay you know.

All things considered, it's a pretty solid list. My major qualm is with there being so many recent games (Oblivion over Morrowind? Bioshock over System Shock 2? Left 4 Dead?)

Also why is Deus Ex so low? Why is Diablo so low? They both deserve far better than they got.
Why isn't Sacrifice on the list? In the end, I know that top game lists are unreliable, especially if made by Game Informer, which I think should be renamed to Game Advertiser, for all I know that's what it actually does, still this list is pretty crappy.

Seriously, Custer's Revenge for Atari? Strip Poker on Commodore 64? Those are nostalgic.

I think the majority would disagree with you. Oblivion with guns isn't that great. Good, very good even.

Even though a ****-load of people will disagree with the list cause their favourite game is not as high as they would like it to be. This list is turning out into a very good "Games you should really play if you haven't already"

Yeah I can't take this seriously if they actually meant to put the games in order of best here.  It's just a jumbled mess of decent games from over the years.

Max Payne at 180... while Tetris is at 3?  That kinda sums up the list for me.  The more complex the game, the less they like it.

Urgh I keep looking back through it and seeing new horrors.  Must stop looking at the list.

Tetris has 100 times the cultural impact that Max Payne has. What the author of this blog failed to do was inform the reader what the magazine based their list on, as it was not just done on gameplay alone.

If the list were done on cultural impact, World of Warcraft should be at least 4th, if not first.

The list is a farce, with no reasonable order beyond the nostalgic top 3, and debating positioning is actually pretty stupid on my part!
