Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward isn’t letting up with their decision to use IWNet and strip Modern Warfare 2 of its dedicated server functionality on the PC.

In a new web-based live chat with the gaming community hosted on BestBuy.com, Infinity Ward’s Ryan Lastimosa, Mackey McCandlish and boss Vince Zampella answered questions regarding the situation with dedicated servers and upheld the idea that the implementation was to the benefit of PC gamers.

Asked if they would consider implementing dedicated servers in the near future, Mackey replied that the company’s current focus was on making sure the game as it is will work well when it is released on platforms more than anything else.

Pressed on with the same question, Zampella stated: “We feel the PC game is great in it's current form. We put a lot of work into IWnet in an effort to make the PC experience better for our users. If there is a need for somthing more in the future we will address as needed.”

“IWnet was designed to make the MP experience on PC easier and more balanced,” he said.

Mackey McCandlish added: “Our goal is to provide the best experience for our users, so nothing is ever "off the table". We are always evaluating our options.”

He went on to state that games hosted on the PC version would be capped out at a reasonable 9v9, in contrast to the 12v12 or larger games on dedicated servers. Infinity Ward also confirmed that host migration, which happens when the player hosting the game leaves, would be in effect on the PC version with a 5-second delay.

When irate gamers pressed Infinity Ward about the 178,000 or so signatures demanding dedicated servers, Zampella reiterated that the system was changed to make it a “better and easier experience.”

“Also, not all of the names on that list are legit,” he added.

Don't worry guys, I can translate: " We made this game for consoles and we weren't going for the PC platform even but some guys said we could make money from it".
Matchmaking and the lack of dedicated servers are a thing for consoles. They think that people will snap up and pay for it even though the spoonful of horse turds they offer disguised as honey isn't so well disguised. But then so many people snap up and pay for it, I think they might be right in exploiting them.

I would have considered purchasing the PC version if I had a decent machine to run it (my gaming PC's busted so I can't play any PC games ):), but me too.

That's nowhere near as bad as the removal of dedicated servers from the PC version, and there are some legitimate reasons for the disabling of Party Chat in MW2.

Forgive me if I'm being harsh, but I feel as though they're unbelievably arrogant as to think they know what's better for the hundreds of thousands of passionate PC gamers who know what they want and have enjoyed the benefits of dedicated servers for years in various shooters.

How is one player having host advantage making the game "more balanced"?  I don't mind the maximum player limit being lowered; it means there'll be less chaos, spam and lag involved, but they're doing it for the wrong reason, and that is peer-to-peer gaming.

Infinity Ward gets a "Noob" from me.

True, they don't know what the F*&^ they're talking about.

How the hell does it benefit the PC gamers, by removing the one perfect system for online play that has worked for years!?!?
Simply unbelievable nonsense!

Whole mess could be solved by running IWNet and releasing an unsupported open source dedicated server. Don't even put in a gui to ruin the "perfect experience" - launch into dedicated server games with command line options.

No muss, no fuss. Community runs the servers, community develops the client/server gui, community maintains the server software, community polices cheating. Costs IW nothing more than they've already spent.

If they don't do it, a 13-year-old will reverse engineer it in two months, tops, anyway.

178,000 names he says some wernt legit well that is still a $10,000,000 potential loss of revenue at $60 per copy!
guess they are making way more on console, less work and not as much fuss!
