When support for dedicated servers was cut from the PC version of Modern Warfare 2, it raised the ire of the PC gaming community. Today, Infinity Ward dropped another bomb on the game’s userbase when a poster on NeoGAF discovered that the 360 version of the game would be disabling Party Chat. Attempts to join a game in party chat will prompt players to switch to in-game chat or otherwise leave the game.
Robert Bowling has yet to comment on the absence of party chat, but he did mention on his Twitter account that the leaderboards and levels will be reset just prior to the Modern Warfare 2’s official launch in order to ensure no unfair advantages are given to players with advance copies of the game.
"It definitely looks like a full leaderboard / level reset is in order just before the release date to ensure no unfair advantages," wrote Bowling.
Though Bowling has yet to address the missing support for party chat, I can’t even begin to speculate on the reasoning that went behind the removal of that particular feature.

It's easy, Sol Invictus, I'm assuming you don't have an Xbox Live account/play multiplayer shooters regularly on the 360?
In most shooters, such as Gears of War 2, if you die in a round of Execution or Warzone (elimination-style, one life per round kinda deal), you can no longer communicate with your team mates. However, through Party Chat, you and your team mates can talk to each other even after you die. This means I can tell my team mate where the last enemy is hiding, if he's being flanked, or where a mine is hidden, since I'm dead and I'm just looking around the map with the Ghost Cam.
So yeah, being able to talk with your team mates after you die through Party Chat = significant advantage. It's kinda cheap, especially if it's you and your team against an opposing group of randoms who don't know each other.
Unlike the lack of dedicated servers for the PC version of MW2, I think I support the disabling of Party Chat for the 360. Hopefully, they'll give players an option to enable Party Chat in private games, but this is good. The only downside is that you can't, you know, just have a good time chatting with other people who may be playing different games from you and you wouldn't be cheating, but I'm not totally opposed to this as I am with the lack of dedicated servers.

How is this an issue in TDM when you automatically respawn after each kill?

noobie indeed, you fecking moron. Allowing team chat means that can still happen! This just blocks me only talking to my friends and not the bumbling moron who won't shut up...

Stu, in team chat the dead can't communicate with the living, but with party chat you can.
If you don't want to talk with the 'bumbling moron' you should form a squad on your team so your communications are isolated there. You know about squads, right?
Even worse than dead players informing living players is when two players in a party chat manage to get placed on opposite teams. If you've played CoD WaW multiplayer at all you're familiar with the people who collude with someone on the opposite team just to rack up kills and planting/defusing points. Killing party chat stops them from being able to rat out the locations of their teammates to their colluding friends.
Bravo.

Party chat is the only thing keeping me from losing faith in the human race. Without party chat I'll be forced to listen to idiots saying things like "BULLSH1T, You're a homo I totally shot you first, bro!"

That's what I recommend, but it's more convenient to be in Party Chat and not have to deal with muting anybody.

That makes sense for modes like Search and Destroy, but not Team Deathmatch. The mics are always open in TDM; there's no reason to force game chat in TDM (which is all I play anyway).

i hate how they have disabled party chat. i like to sit and talk to other mates who may not be on CoD for example as well as the team of people i'm playing with. The last thing i want is hearing some randoms talk rubbish to me and believe me, i get a lot of stick for being a girl on CoD. I hope to god that they bring out a patch to make this feature optional because it's a bit crap otherwise.
yeah, yeah i see why they have done it but, id rather sit in my party chat knowing i'm not going to get abuse thrown at me

CAnt they just lock the ghost cam to the remaining players?
Disabling Party Chat is moronic.
Does it prevent me talking to party memebers who are not in the game? If so then its beyond belief.

Besides since no one in the CoD development teams can write a decent pre match system and the lobby is terrible.. you need party chat to vent the anger at the terrible CoD matchmaking system that never works.

only bought the game to casually play with friends online in party chat..
not everyone is serious about playing and actually wants to try and be on opposite teams or cares enough to give info out once your dead and watching kill cam..
this is pathetic, i will be asking for a refund now as the game is unplayable for me.. i just wanted to have small 1-2 member parties playing online for a few match's before we got bored now we cant, we like a nice chat while we play and im pretty sure 20 strangers on a server dont want to know our personal business and we dont want them to know ours..

I agree. It's not all about leader-board rankings. It's a game.

Just a heads up, you can still use private chat (not party chat) in any game type, though you can only talk to one friend...

I totally agree with everything "sign" said. I play with a group of friends who like to sit and gossip about our lives....playing on the xbox is a social experience for us casual gamers. Removing party chat will put us (and i'm sure many many others) off playing. Total total madness. If they wanted to block party chat for hardcore modes then that I could understand.
