Zoey is arguably one of the most realistically designed female characters in a video game to date, featuring what one could describe as honest to goodness 'girl-next-door' cuteness and appeal and a geeky personality that most gamers would probably be able to relate to and even find attractive; a kind of high-spiritedness that most decent guys would find undeniably appealing.
She's like a regular person, and who can't like that?

Zoey's Model

Now, if you're wondering who Zoey's model is based on, then wonder no more. Zoey is based on one Sonja Kinski, daughter of the actress Nastassja Kinski. Sonja is herself an actress, having starred in the indie film All God's Children Can Dance, which is based on a short story by Haruki Murakami in which she appears in various states of undress for much of the movie.
A (somewhat NSFW) trailer can be seen below:
Yeah, I totally realize that some of you whom are reading this are probably going to get the movie just to watch Ms. Kinski baring it all, but who knows, the rest of the movie might even be enjoyable.

"Oh no! The zombies killed God!"
Voiced by the talented Jen Taylor, who's also the voice of Cortana in the Halo series, Zoey earns as much of her appeal through her looks and body language as she does through her voice, which lends her the character and 'life' that most of us find memorable.
Without her voice, she would be but a face, albeit a pretty face but not a very compelling character. We really owe it to Ms. Taylor and the writers at Valve for providing Zoey with her personality and her memorable lines. "The zombies killed God" and "I'm calling Zombie bull****..." are but a few of the lines that come to mind.
Jen Taylor is also well known for being the voice of the sexy British spy, Cate Archer, in Monolith's No One Lives Forever. For real, Cate Archer is a cool character and it'd be awesome to see more female protagonists like Cate Archer and Zoey in video games. Lara Croft just can't compare to either of them.
So here's hoping that we see more of Zoey as Valve makes new content available for Left 4 Dead. God knows that the game could use a few more campaigns for us to play, and I sure as hell look forward to hearing some new comic relief from Zoey while I blast my way through the zombie hordes.
Zoey is clearly one of the coolest female characters to grace our LCDs and based on the popularity of Left 4 Dead, it looks like she's here to stay. Awesome.

She's cute. She looks nicer as Zoe to me, and I mean that in (hopefully) a non super-creepy way.
Yeah I also think Kate from Lost looks far better when she's dirtied up :P

Murikami writes some good stories, so it could actually be a good movie.

Yeah, I haven't seen the movie either. I might grab it from Amazon, though.Â

Actually, I believe Zoey was modelled on Alésia Glidewell.

The old Zoey was modelled on her. The new Zoey is pretty clearly Sonja Kinski, who's even credited for providing her likeness.Â

I am a fan of L4D and I *always* play as Zoey if I can. I also noticed the difference between old Zoey and new Zoey but thought it was just my imagination, or bad art.
If you take a look at the posters for each campaign you'll notice that Zoey looks completely wrong in some of them, maybe all (I don't remember right now). I though perhaps the art was just drawn weird, because Zoey in the campaign posters just doesn't look like Zoey in the game.
A friend then told me that originally Zoey had had a different character model, so thanks for the post! It's nice to know I'm not crazy. I just wish the poster art had been updated too, because I like new Zoey more. Old Zoey in the posters just looks frumpy.
And hooray for having a decent female character in a game for once. While even I have to admit that I understand the reasons behind female characters usually having next to no clothing on, I am relieved to see that Zoey is dressed properly!

You're welcome! I really appreciate the response. I'm glad you found the post helpful.
If you've been playing Left 4 Dead with the latest update you'll notice that Zoey looks absolutely nothing like her character in the poster for Last Stand. Instead, she bears some resemblance to the Octomom with her longish face. I'm not sure what the deal with that is, because none of the other characters look different from their in-game counterparts.

Hence why I thought perhaps I was seeing things! Bill, Francis and Louis look very much like their in-game counterparts.
Still, the fact that they changed Zoey makes me think they realised they needed to be careful with their one and only female character. She needed to be, for lack of a better word, "perfect" for her role.
And that she is.

It's Nastassja Kinski. There's an extra "S" in there, which is why some people gave her the nickname "Nasty" back in the day.

No, she's not. Glidewell was only the temporary model but the finished game uses the likeness of Kinski.
