Just moments ago, Bethesda's Pete Hines revealed in a press conference in London that a new Fallout game, entitled Fallout: New Vegas has just been announced to be in development by Obsidian Entertainment, which as some of you may know consists of the team that was responsible for the original Fallout 2.The new game is slated for release in 2010 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Hines revealed that it will not be a sequel to Fallout 3 but rather another RPG set in the Fallout universe. He went on to further state that the game will be in a similar vein to the previous Fallout games, rather than a spinoff of any sort.
"We approached Obsidian and they were, like, yeah. That was a pretty easy conversation. It's not Fallout Tactics, it's not Brotherhood of Steel; it's another RPG."
Hines added finally that the new game will have no bearing whatsoever on the game in development by Todd Howard and his team. Whether that game is Fallout 4 or The Elder Scrolls 5 remains to be seen.
Earlier today, Bethesda also revealed that it had submitted trademark applications for a Fallout TV series and movie.

I can't think of many ways a Fallout TV series would work well.

Well, there's Jeremiah--that was pretty bad. There's also Jericho, which was better. Fallout would simply be a post-apocalyptic setting with retro-futuristic 1950s props and a background of its own. I could see it working pretty well, to be honest.

Post-apocalyptic western might work, or something along the lines of 28 Days Later, but... eh, with most cases, post-apocalyptic is something tacked on as a setting to a standard show type, rather than really driving the show. And seeing as the setting of Fallout is really the only thing that makes it Fallout, it'd be difficult.
Unless of course they decide to go Brotherhood of Steel versus Enclave in some form of combat series... that might just work.

I would give my right kidney to play a vault dweller on TV.

wow, jericho was really really bad, one of the worst shows I have ever seen in my life, and I have seen a lot of em. I just hope its not going to be another jericho. I need something that takes this subject to the next level, without the ****ty **** chat around. Comon the guys in jericho lived on as nothing happens, some villians, a tank and thats it. Nothing really happend dramatic. Like thousands of people trying to get out of greater denver, just think about it
hope that bethesda will have a good look at it!

Yeah, I know riiight? The fact that the good guys always got their butts handed to them because they were all morally righteous (we're just as bad as those neo-nazi skin heads who are killing all the colored people if we let them die!) and really, really dumb.
If anything I'd want the show to be something like Deadwood. Big budget HBO style. Of course, shows like that probably don't last beyond a single season because of how much they cost to create. I wouldn't mind seeing more lighthearted faire like Legend of the Seeker, either. After all, Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 were filled with humor. FO3 just seems terribly depressing by comparison and I'm really glad that Obsidian is making this one. They'd bring the game back to its roots, for sure.

All the wrong thinking humans in this blog. (sigh)
1) Jericho was great. Some of the morality choices were syrupy, yes, but still a good romp. Interesting storylines and generally a good cast. I actually quite liked it.
2) And the Fallout TV show should be gritty. Very. And dark with the show's protaganist working to survive and live. If none of the game's humour survived the translation into a TV series, Id be okay with that. Ok, I take that back, Ol' Treehead can made the move to TV.

Do you remember the episode of Jericho where the main guy and his pal (the black dude) encounter a couple of raiders who have their way with a girl.
After they were done, the good guys managed to rescue her, and I thought to myself "Hey, why didn't you guys act a little sooner? You could've prevented that."
But that's not the only that that pissed me off about that episode. After they'd rescued her they'd manage to trap the two raiders in the back of a truck and Jericho funneled the exhaust of the vehicle into the truck, causing those two dudes tu suffocate.
But then instead of letting those two bastards choke, his pal decided he was being too harsh or something (WTF?) and unlocked the door and they all ran away.
See, I don't get that at all. In my mind, those two raiders probably went back to their old ways and victimized a bunch of other innocents because Jericho and his pal didn't have what it takes to dispense justice.
That's not the only time the show pissed me off with its syrupy horse**** moral values. There was an episode where Jericho's pal went to some town that had a library in it and ever so often these raiders would come by and start burning books because raiders are gigantic ******** like that.
The townspeople were all a bunch of nerds (seriously) who were too afraid of sticking up for themselves even though they outnumbered the raiders 5 to 1. It actually pissed me off at how they were all wimpy. I mean, Jesus Christ, it's the post-apocalypse -- how do these people even survive?
So like, one day he decides he isn't gonna take the book burning anymore and manages to beat up some of the raiders but he lets them get away, and then he gets all the townspeople to rally with their sticks to defend the town when the raiders come again. I wondered why none of them had guns.
Anyway, guns aside, that episode really pissed me off because it reminded me of the scarcity and sanctity of knowledge, especially in a post-apocalyptic world where such knowledge is invaluable. The fact that these people weren't defending those books with their lives makes absolutely no sense to me. They were just reading because they enjoyed it. I mean really, what? Give me a ******* break, Jericho.
The show pretended to be gritty, but it was anything but. In reality--or on a well written show, the townspeople would've defended those books in a bunker and armed themselves to the teetih with rifles and booby traps to protect the town. Had raiders made their way through, you can bet they'd have been hung up on trees outside the town for everyone to see.
Did I mentoin that the main character, Jericho, had an inexplicable thing against the use of firearms? What's up with that?
Yeah, I don't have a very high opinion of the show.
When the blind girl got shot a feeling of malicious glee rose up in me. Take that, Jericho's stupid friend. Ha ha!

Fallout TV Series? Plz NO!
It will just kill the Fallout Universe!!
Special FX on series have a knack of sucking bad... try to imagine how a low budget tv-serie will do to make PowerArmor , Super Mutants , Ghouls... now add to the soup the "90210" factor most series have and voila ... a 6 episode Fallout Serie no-one will watch and fans will hate.
Sorry for the rant!!!
Leave Fallout on the isometric view and dont make movies or series or action figures or any of that crap!

There's already a Fallout movie. It's called Road Warrior! ;p jk jk, but it did strongly influence the fallout setting.
Hmm. I wonder if Bethesda is outsourcing to a different developer to get them to make a more classic experience? I.e. Top down or at least turn based combat? Still an RPG, but not a sequel.

Sometimes you just trademark something so someone else can't. I doubt that we will ever see Fallout on the big or small screen. Bethesda is likely just making sure that no one else jumps in and steals it from them (even if they don't really want it)

Sorry, have to disagree with you all who say Fallout wouldn't make a good TV series. I think they could make a great series out of it, but I also think Joss Whedon would have to direct it. Consider how good he is at making something gritty and depressing while throwing in those small bits of comedic relief that gave the original Fallout so much character. And, not to make anything personal, but Vanzen, FX don't make a TV show. Look at Dr Who for example, people have always loved that show, and its effects were never better than mediocre (thats being generous). Besides, I havent heard anyone complain about Battlestar Galacticas FX, maybe they could use that graphics system.
Of course, I've been out of the loop on the whole TV thing lately, so I could be totally wrong about all of this. But whatever, I say we get together and write to whoever it is thats talking about the show and then petition Joss Whedon for it. Screw Doll House....
