As scuttlebutt would have it, some people remain unimpressed with Bruce Everiss's findings and have questioned his lack of evidence against the Evony operation. As such, I've taken the liberty to provide evidence of Evony's blatant use of artwork from Age of Empires II: Age of Kings.
Let's play some “Spot the Difference”. Click the image for the full size.
Age of Empires II: Age of Kings

Evony

- Walls – Rescaled.
- Stables – No modifications.
- Archery Targets – Cloned and stamped.
- Dome – Cut and pasted.
- Building side #1 and #2 – Cut and pasted.
There are more stolen graphics in the game, of course, but I can't be bothered to sift through each and every building. If it's proof you wanted, this should more than suffice.

"John"? Why bother with the fake name? Just call yourself 'shill' and be done with it.

Is it me, or is it possible that both are owned by the same company?

Sorry, though you were comparing 2 similar game. Didn't look at the names.

No. It isn't. AoE was an Ensemble-created, Microsoft-published brand. Ensemble is now no more. Evony is Evony. Completely (and legally) unrelated.

Does it matter what version I'm using? It's a screenshot widely available in early reviews of Evony. Though I doubt the veracity of your claim, dear plant, the game was already commercial when these graphics were being used. It's plagiarism, plain and simple.

While most of it is taken directly from one game to the next, I'm having a tough time with the archery targets. Really? I mean sure they look similar, they're ******* targets, how different can they be, especially at that size? They could be made from scratch and you'd have no idea simply because they'd all look the ******* same.

You must be high, "John". The sprites are exact copies. They're stolen graphics. Why are you in denial?

You also seem to be terribly focused on the archery targets. What about everything else?

Fkn dumb@$$. Its obviously plaguerism. Look at the stables!
I play evony and think it is a great game, however i realize and acknowledge this plaguerism. That would be a big @$$ coincidence cuz the stables are exactly the freaking same.

That's hardly the point. The point is you took a screenshot from someone's long past relevant review of the game. You fancy yourself a journalist with your blog here yet you show poor journalist integrity by not investigating the game for yourself and then reporting. This simply makes you lose credibility. I'm sure Evony still steals the contents of other games for their benefit, you should report on current plagarism from this company and not old known old issues of plagarism that have since been removed several version earlier.

That hardly changes the fact that they've committed IP theft, though, does it? They made profits from the game while using these graphical assets. That is clearly illegal. If I drive a stolen car to work and I eventually earn enough money to buy my own car and stop driving the stolen car, it doesn't change the fact that I still committed theft. Just because I don't have the car anymore doesn't mean I'm free from liability.

The problem is you state in your article that it is presently going on. Now a curious fellow would go to Evony to witness the claims first hand and find your statements false. This is why what you post makes your credibility weak. You didn't take the time or the effort to go and investigate the current release of Evony and report on how it is plagiarizing currently. What you have here is assumptions based on currently false information that you are trying to pass as evidence. All I am saying is that maybe you should use some primary sources before reporting. What you posted is not proof anymore and it does not suffice.

Gatz, i play evony on the new version, the stables are still exactly the same. i love evony but i KNOW that they plaugerize just by looking at those two images.

OP Here, This is the current version of Evony. http://imgur.com/W25D0.jpg As you can see it looks nothing like you have above. I do play the game, which is why I was questioning where your screen shots came from.

Obviously this post is faked. Envoy screens look nothing like the above screen. POORLY DONE, NUB.

Is it really worth the time to come to our boards and try to convince the Hellforge community, many of us already familiar with shams and doublespeak, that you are an actual person and that Evony is not a game that is deserving of our ridicule?

Go to youtube and search for Evony videos, you will see the same screen as me. Here is one to save you the search. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-DNAypsbIU .Im not sticking up that Evony good or doesn't deserve ridicule, but just pointing out, that I play the game and what is posted is not the screen I see.

Holy ****. Age of Kings is one of the best games of all time... and Evony has the nerve to blatantly steal graphics from it, and not even try to cover their tracks? Bury the ******* into the ground. They deserve every iota of wrath the internet can conjure against them.

I know, right? Age of Kings is just one of those games that we PC gamers hold sacred to our hearts.

Wow, that must be an old version. While I have no doubt they may have copied and pasted, it really doesn't look anything like that now. I was playing for about a month and a half up until last week when I decided I'd rather have a life then play a boring web browser game. And yeah, it's boring when it takes you freaking three days just to learn a new science skill.

First off, I don't play the game, but as an old school snail-mail gamer it would take us a week just to receive the results of our orders. Quit grousing about 3 days

This is not 'plagiarism,' it is, in fact, blatant copyright infringement. Say what you want about the state of copyright laws, but lifting graphics from another game, wholesale, and putting them into your own creation is the very core type of unauthorized copying that the copyright act was passed to protect against.

The top bar is exactly the same, heh.
Could they plagiarize any worse than that?
Text is copied word for word!
