Dragon Age: Origins - It's a big freaking dragon

This announcement may be a day late, but BioWare is now offering copies of Dragon Age: Origins on Steam. Available in both vanilla form and Digital Deluxe Collector’s Edition form, anyone who buys the game from Steam can expect to receive an equippable ring called The Wicked Oath in addition to The Memory Band pre-order item and The Stone Prisoner DLC that sells separately for US$15.

The Wicked OathCountess Luciana of Antiva lived as a virtual prisoner in her husband’s castle until an elven slave offered her a way out. The slave magically bound a small amount of the countess’s blood into a ring in return for a promise of freedom. The countess agreed, and the count was found stabbed soon afterwards, this ring lying beside him. Neither Luciana nor the slave were seen again.
  • Adds +10% to critical strike damage
  • Improves armor penetration by 2
  • Adds +1 to combat stamina regeneration

Players who opt to purchase the Digital Deluxe version of the game from Steam will receive all Collector’s Edition exclusive items with the edition of the Warden’s Keep DLC that will not be available for free to those who buy a boxed copy of the game.

BioWare is currently in negotiations with Steam to provide a pre-loaded version of the game to anyone who pre-orders it from the platform so customers will be able to play the game the moment it is unlocked on November 3rd.

The Steam version of the game will support patching via the platform, and DLCs bought through the EA Store and other add-ons will be fully compatible. As with almost all other titles on Steam, owners will be able to run Dragon Age offline.

The regular version of Dragon Age: Origins sells carries a price tag of US$50 while the Collector’s Edition goes for a heftier US$65.

If you were one of the few who purchased the Collector’s Edition for $55 on Steam, I’ve been informed  that you will not be billed an additional 10 dollars for Steam’s mistake, as Valve always honors its price.

PC Gamer UK has since reviewed the game and tagged it with a score of 94%, calling it "A truly astonishing game. Vast, vivid and microscopically detailed. Dragon Age is the RPG of the decade" and that the entirety of the game spans 80 hours on the first playthrough.

Your blogs about Dragon Age convinced me to get the game.  My confusion? Xbox 360 or PC....

Get the PC version. It's true to its predecessor, Baldur's Gate, and you get to zoom out in tactical mode.

I was just reading your blog about the zoom in your other blog.  Asides from that, it might be a better idea because I doubt my wife will let me hog the living room for so many hours.

I would STRONGLY suggest the PC version.  While I have not heard anything about an editor for the game (I have not really looked though either).  It's very likely that regardless of whether or not there is an editor, there will be many user mods from graphics overhaul's to new content.

Oh there always is. Guarentee there will be a large portion of the community that finds the official content "crap" and "in need of fixing".

If Ag was still around, he'd be making a pre-emptive mods list already!

You want the PC version...the toolset looks great, and is going to allow for some really amazing modules. As of right now, you can not play player created content on the console versions, although they are trying to work something out with Sony and Microsoft.

If you aren't into mods and such, then I don't think it really matters. But seeing how a large part of the NWN modding community is coming over, there are going to be some great player created stuff.
