In a recent interview with the Wired blog, VP Rob Pardo revealed some of the following details about Diablo III's release date and the state of its development.Â
"I don't know how far out it is, but it's still fairly early in development. I think when people see it, it feels so polished and so finished, but the reality is we have a very small portion of the game done right now," Pardo explained.Â
He added: "A lot of the way we develop is: We wanna make sure the game is really fun and the visual fidelity we want ... we wanna make sure we have a small area that feels really done so we know what to build. So even though it looks really complete a lot of the content is just not there. We have a long ways to go to build each of the different acts in the game and put in all the quests and all the different monsters. We have a lot of development ahead of us before it will be something ... It will definitely be out after StarCraft II."
Thanks gyrextt for spotting this in an interview I'd read but kinda skimmed over.

Hmmz that is a pity since Starcraft II is not expected to come out somewhere next year. he makes it sounds like they have not yet finished more then a quarter of the game. if this is true, then fall 2009 might really be out of the question. Will have to find a couple more game to fill my time with then...

if you are waiting for something good, then you can never wait for too long
but it would be nice if the game could be released as soon as possible so that we can put our teeth in it.

I'd rather wait than go through another Hellgate experience.

Yeah, I'd rather wait for a good product than have something that was rushed

They've been saying that it's still early in development for quite some time. I suppose they just needed to come out and make sure everyone realized just how early in it was. Unfortunate, but it gives me more time to get my compute up and ready.

Well I didn't expect it too soon. I'm thinking probably late late 2009 or early to mid 2010.
