Sessler makes it very clear that he’s not a fan of hate speech and goes on to lament the issue, especially in its rampant use on Xbox Live and PSN.
As for anyone defending the use of the word by claiming that it isn’t being used in a hateful context: I will echo Sessler’s words and say that it’s only a very comfortable position that one can take when the person defending its use is gay.

Yeah I don't agree, in regards to be taken out of context, in which that it is only from a very comfortable position that someone can take, if they themselves are gay, in deeming if the statement is in context or not. Sessler attaches his and only his context to the word ***, regardless of how many people agree or disagree with him. Words are what you put behind them. Take responsibility for what you enforce them with and STFU. Clearly the word *** holds terrible meaning for this man... Which is not to say the word has no effect on me, I refuse to shove me opinion it into a worthless rant. Regardless, his rationale is so contrived and twisted, it offends me more than the stupid commercial trying to be cool. Since when did freedom of speech become an exercise in moral aptitude?

Freedom of speech also gives you the freedom to criticize. A little fact that seems to escape anyone who disagrees with Sessler.

Just my ill-conceived knee jerk critique. Speak Man! Speak until you are blue in the face!

Gooooooooood grief. Drama Queen much?
I swear if I gave this man a molehill, he'd turn it into a mountain before I had time to turn around and turn back again. Does he only latch onto the latest "contraversies", or does he have an opinion on everything? He certainly makes use of the term "soapbox". I actually found his "**** cake" analogy quite offensive and unnecessary.
The IW video was a joke. It was in poor taste, but it was still funny. Why do people worry about what should be offending other people? Let the gay community post their outrage, and then complain with them. Chances are, most of them probably looked at the video and went "Huh? That's stupid" and never thought any more of it.
All these groups screaming "It IS offensive, you should find it offensive, you will!!" in peoples faces only generates more problems. Just look at the Aussie Left 4 Dead. We have one ******* governing what he thinks Australia should find offensive. No thanks. I think we'll decide what's offensive to us and what isn't. We don't need people making those decisions for us, based on their sole opinion.

We can argue on whether it was funny or not, but that is besides the point. Gay people did post their outrage. Quite a number of them did, in fact. Guess what the gaming community's response was?
Here's a hint: it rhymes with "Shut the **** up, maggots."
Who gives a **** about gay people, right? Funny how everyone would be ****ting themselves right now if the acronym they used was the N-word instead.
This isn't about Australia or what Michael Atkinson thinks about video game violence. This is about the passive support of hate speech.
You don't have to be a Jew to be offended by Holocaust jokes, so why is it hard for people to grasp that the 'f' word can offend more than just gays?

Well, the "N" word has a lot more history riding on it. Some pretty awful treatment to an entire race of people is associated with that word.
"****", however, is something little kids call each other over the internet as juvenile insults. It's been used so often it's watered down to the point where 'most' people don't care anymore. It's taken about as seriously as "dickhead" or "*******". The type of people that say "Stfu, *******" are the type of stupid, immature people that would say that kind of stuff anyway. They don't need permission from a video to use the word, it's probably a common everyday part of their vocabulary.
It all depends on how it's said. I know about.... 4 gay guys in real life. They don't really use the word, because it's somewhat dated now (omg, 1980's much?), but they use the term "***hag" when joking with their girl buddies. I've asked a few of them, and they just laughed at the IW stunt, and laughed even more about people getting upset over it.
They did say that if someone came up and said specifically to them "I hate you ***", then they wouldn't appreciate it. Who would. But in a passing internet video it's about as offensive as your average game of Counterstrike.
Once again this just seems like people making something a much bigger deal out of something then it actually is. IW probably should have thought twice before releasing the video, but in the end the people who want to find it offensive will find it offensive, no matter how jocular it was intended to be.

It's different in America, Project. You're coming from a different perspective. Unless you go to the coast, most Americans aren't as liberal as most Australians and Europeans.
I'm a gay man (29 years old now) who grew up facing homophobia in my small town in Ohio and the f-word was a word thrown about to demean my sexual identity. The word is every bit as hurtful to a homosexual as the n-word would be to most blacks.
We are still struggling to be treated as equal citizens in a country that hates who we are. They won't even allow us to marry each other.

By the way I will add that it is considered "okay" for a black man to use the n-word on himself much as it is "okay" for a gay man to call himself the f-word or refer to his female friends as ***hags. It's not okay for a straight person to use the word, especially in a derogatory context. When straight people make the claim that they are simply "taking power away from the word" or ""taking it back" they are just deluding themselves.

Hm. I see. Yes, I suppose if you're from area's like that, then the word does hold more meaning. It's hard to imagine places like that still exist... although I think most of us assume that the American south is pretty intolerant of almost everything.
Australia has a huge gay scene, and it's just openly accepted. The only examples of serious prejudice we see are on TV dramas heh. Though I have a feeling the more isolated, rural areas of Australia aren't quite as advanced.
Well, if the word really is considered so tabboo in other countries, I guess IW was right to take the video down. Though I'm certain they didn't intend as much offense as was taken. It's not like they don't have enough negative publicity working for them at the moment anyway.

Being stateside, I can vouch for Proj, that the south isn't veyy tolerant to anything, save football (not soccer) perhaps.
By chance, does anyone still use the F-word meaning cigarettes? I know it's an older term for cigarettes (and mostly used in England), but, as I creative writer in my spare time, I have learned some terms like this.
In class, one time we read a passage from an English novel where the narrator had wrote, "Nigel just stood there, puffing a (f-word)". I was the only who didn't (wrongly) laugh out loud.

You hear it sometimes in Australia, but not often. As I said, the word is really dated, and not used much. Sort of like saying old "cool" words, like "choice", "groovy" "cowabunga". If you try to say the f word as an insult, people would just look at you, as if to say "Dude, what era are you from?"

For the record, I will be spamming grenades left and right. The Infinty Ward video didn't affend me, and Sessler is always on a soapbox. Remember when G4 used to be worth watching? Who remembers the Screensavers? I long for the days when can just admit I should have ran in the opposite direction of the grenade instead of trying to throw it back.

Yes, the acronym was in poor taste, but so is this six minute rant. A 30 second spiel would have sufficed. Most people will have already turned this off by that point unless they wholeheartedly agreed with him to begin with and are equally incensed about the whole ordeal.

Well, I don't know if the acronym was in poor taste because people who spam grenades are arguably **** but as for whether **** is still a derogatory term against gay folks or not is an entirely different matter.

IW is perfectly in their right to say whatever they want. YOU DONT HAVE A RIGHT TO BE NEVER BE OFFENDED.
That said, they are a bunch of asshats (or 12 year olds) for doing
something this stupid as far as public relations goes. They are more
than within their rights to post that video, just as we are within our
rights to ***** about it and hopefully, not buy their game.

Sessler being an idiot, it is not entirely unexpected of him to do idiotic things.
