left 4 dead 2

Speaking to CVG, Valve's Doug Lombardi says that the teeming masses of Left 4 Dead players can expect some announcements for Left 4 Dead downloadable content come Summer.

He also mentioned that new L4D2-relaced announcements will be made within the coming months, with details of new Special Infected, weapons and campaigns being made available along with an L4D2 demo that will give everyone a chance to play the game before it hits the shelves.

Lombardi added that he thinks players will be able to understand Valve's method of madness months after Left 4 Dead 2 has been released, with continued support for the first game.

At the same press event, writer Chet Faliszek said, “We never thought, ‘We need to say that we’re going to keep updating Left 4 Dead,’ because that was always our plan. Briefly before that [E3] we’d already posted on our blog about the updates that were coming. We didn’t think people would think, ‘Oh wait, now they’re not going to do that stuff they talked about’. Yes, we are.”

Additionally, a Valve representative told Eurogamer that pre-orders for Left 4 Dead 2 are double the amount that of the first game, an object lesson on the effectiveness of online petitions.

I'll be happy when I hear the words, "JK guys, L4D2 is actually L4D DLC" and not a moment before.

"Additionally, a Valve representative told Eurogamer that pre-orders for Left 4 Dead 2 are double the amount that of the first game"

Or it means:
A - Valve could be lieing. After all, FSS told us a lot of things that turned out to be porkies. it's not a Valve thing to do... but you know.... no big company likes it when they get near-40k negative response like L4D2 has. Attempted damage control mayhap?

B - There are a lot of gullible people who are happy to friviously throw their money away. Shame on those people for letting big business get away with it. Shhhaaammmmeeeee.

C - There were a lot of smart people who saw this coming and withheld purchasing L4D1 in order to get whatever deal they're going to do for both games when 2 is released. Smart people.

I'm going with Option D: People who love L4D will give L4D2 a chance. 50 dollars isn't much to pay for 200+ hours of fun, anyhow.

That depends. If the demo's good, surely.

It tells you that people are willing to pay a reasonable amount for new content that they are almost certain they will enjoy from a company that is known for producing good games. I'm not surprised in the slightest, as the *****ing about l4d2 has been more about abandoning l4d1 than saying that l4d2 is going to be actually bad, and most l4dheads are so desperate for new content that they will happily splash out if it means new and specially flavoured coop fun.

While I really like some of the new features and additions in L4D2, I still think a lot of it could have been done for L4D1 in patches and DLC, particularly gameplay changes.

The initial footage for the game from E3 didn't particularly excite me, but I did recently see some more in game  footage from their more recent show in London, and that was quite a bit more impressive.

I'm still going to wait for some reviews on this one, but, I have no problem paying up if they've actually created a quality game worth being a game, instead of DLC for the original.
