NCsoft has pushed the launch of Guild Wars 2 back to "TBA 2010/2011".
Word comes from financial 2008 roundup papers (spotted by Voodoo Extreme), although there's no reason for the hefty delay. Yet.
Guild Wars 2 had, once upon a time, been penciled in for launch last year. So far, however, we've seen nothing of the sequel, just heard tidbits of projected features and word there will be no early-days beta - ArenaNet feels there's much more riding on Guild Wars 2.
Whether that means the game design has changed from the level limit-less original concept ideas, we don't know. But all we do know can be found on our Guild Wars 2 gamepage.
Interestingly, the same NCsoft financial report shows Guild Wars 1 has 5.8 million active account as of December 2008. The MMO is free-to-play, however - the only costs involved are buying the game/expansions.

The only other MMO I played as much as WoW was the original Guild Wars, which to me was the epitome of what 'could' have been a new genre of eSports. However due to release changes it wasn't to be. My 1 hope is that the next Guild Wars will have a more competitive approach. It was a fun and great experience to be a part of the first alpha test, and only time will tell if I will be able to get into the next. However whenever new GW2 news pops up, I'll be posting it here in my Guildfeeder blog...

My hope is that small guilds are still able to easy to manage for GvG I think the optimal competitive Guild number is 12-16 members...
According to ArenaNet, they never actually set a firm release date, so the delay wasn't really a delay, but rather a speculated date that got changed...
Fast expansions with new classes, skills etc... puts a the competitive community to keep up, also I feel that complete balance testing will suffer (unless they balance all the classes before the launch of the first game)
I remember back in the days of old Asheron's Call when paying a monthly subscription equated to monthly ongoing content, with a persistent storyline and a changing, evolving environment.
A lot of new MMORPGs have attempted to change the rules by offering nothing in exchange for subscription. Chief among them would be Hellgate: London and its horse**** 'quarterly' content that would be released 2 months late or not at all, as the case proved to be. They took us for a ride.
