With that frivolity out of the way I'll move on to resolutions. Usually I never make resolutions because the very thought of doing whatever it is I've promised is enough to get me not to even try.
My resolution this year - along with trying to keep jogging my way into some sort of semi-fit state - is to read my awful christmas novel.
Despite people knowing my tastes in literature, without fail I'll receive a book in an utterly inappropriate genre as a gift. This year I have 2 of them, but by far the most bizarre choice is a double set of medical mystery novels by Robin Cook. The first being "Coma" and the second being "Abduction".
While I can understand the thought behind it - I like a good mystery - I'm in no way fond of medical dramas. I've watched an entire episode of Gray's Anatomy, but that's as far as it goes.
At the moment I'm slowly working my way through Coma, but it's incredibly hard work. The main character has her work cut out with me straight away. She's that medical drama stereotype woman. The beautiful brainiac medical student who fights bravely to be taken seriously as a doctor and not just a beautiful face. She's certainly living up to my expectations already. Within her first chapter she's stood around naked in front of a mirror admiring herself and wondering why she didn't become a dancer, because boy, does she have a dancer's body! (her words, not mine).
Urgh. I don't care much for female leads to begin with, not in books, television or movies, but I was hoping for a well written character that could break the mould for me. It looks like I'm not going to get it with this book, if the start is anything to go by.
But hey, perhaps if I keep reading she'll manage to win me over.
Any interesting (torturous?) new years resolutions from other GameRioters?

Thanks for posting this, thePinkBurns.
My new year's resolution is to be passionate about life.
By the way, that books sounds terrible. A dancer's body. Oh indeed. Might I suggest reading some books with strong, intelligent female protagonists that aren't described like sex objects? I mean, really. Go for Alastair Reynolds' science fiction epic, Revelation Space.
