Around a month ago I wrote about a new online game that offers no combat whatsoever.  The wowriot community was very unforgiving and it was probably ignored by most people.  I will give it a go again here on Hellforge because I think this game is on to something. Are there any Simcity 4 fans out there? During the time my post was published  I was very addicted to Simcity 4 (I did not like the SC Societies), and it has been a game I often play in search of fulfilling my city building fantasies.

The new online game will play like previous Monte Cristo products (City Life franchise) and that is something that worries me a bit.  The 3D view of CL is really good but confusing and I often found myself wishing for a more SC4 UI.  The basic idea of CitiesXL is to build your own city; the game will feature trading (there will be some kind of market among cities), geographical change, the ability to visit other Mayor's creations among others.

It would be impressive if we could create some kind of havoc in other people's cities (I doubt it.... awwww..... I can only dream).  There is an interview with a player (I should say Mayor) about his "unusual" city.  While this is completely irrelevant I would like to quote this:

"Last minute addition:

Following the patch #201, several cities suffered from what has been nicknamed ‘The Great Depression’. Toothpaste is proud to say that his 6 million people city is still doing well after quite a bit of work to get it back in shape. And his 12 Blueprints being constructed are doing some good progress. You can visit Doodlido on Hyperion."

Wait... Depression? How realistic will this game aim is yet unknown but this looks like a game a few Mayors around the state should play to see if they are prepare to actually be one.

For those interested in checking the game out go to Bigdownload.com and give the demo a try! This will sound like a shameless product placement ad but if you still play Simcity4,  Simtropolis offers a great deal of player created content that is a must for any serious SC player.

It would not be my typical post without videos about the game, please enjoy the next two trailers:

CitiesXL has definitely been on my mind for some time. I mean, I'm as hardcore as it gets when it comes to SC4 but I was always disappointed by the attempts made by other developers to replicate Maxis's success. I'll have to keep a closer eye on this one.

I played the beta of this for a while.  It was alright.  It's basically a city builder with chat and a really shoddy trading system.

I can't say I really liked it or disliked it that much.  You just build a city, make sure you're fulfilling certain requirements... and not much else.  That might be the whole point, but it feels like there's not a great deal to do other than lay roads and put down awkward-to-place buildings.

It's not great, it's not awful.  Maybe a more fanatical city-builder would get more out of it.  I'll just go back to Transport Tycoon :P
