Cheetos
Quite possibly the most delicious snack with a suffix pronounced "eetos," Cheetos (crunchy please) seem like a natural choice for feeding your face as you feed your bloodlust. Still, if you have any respect for your equipment, Cheetos and the orange Leprosy they propagate won't be welcome anywhere near your gaming digits. What a mess!
Better bet: Spicy Wasabi Peas pack a crunch and a punch. The texture ought to satisfy your sharpest snacking teeth while the wasabi kick will keep you feeling alert! Other options? Cheese and crackers are simple and clean, but for a real splurge do homemade nachos with some hearty salsa -- just skip the sour cream and have a napkin handy.

Bawls
It's possible you don't drink Bawls anymore, but probably because everyone else started. Over it or not, many serious gamers look to Bawls and other "energy drinks" for a quick fix. They may taste not so bad, but the excess sugars, syrups, caffeine, and even that precious guarana can have some pretty debilitating effects.

Better bet: Coffee or green tea without added sugar and cream (a little low-fat soymilk won't do too much damage though) will give you that nice energy shot without the after shocks -- no sugar crash and you won't rack up so many empty calories. Still, caffeine in any form can dehydrate and cause its own lows, so moderation is key here. Real fruit juice (not juice cocktail) will give you a lasting pick-me-up without the drop off. Also try adding Emergen-C vitamins to a glass of water. If you still desire soda, stock your fridge with sparkling water -- the carbonation will burst the craving bubble for good.
Pizza
The grease! The horror! Pizza is an obvious choice for late-night noshing because it's delicious, delivered, and free after 30 minutes (actually, I'm pretty sure this offer has gone by the wayside). But pizza will eff up your hardware with grease stains and probably leave your tummy feeling pretty greasy too.

Better bet: Homemade calzones -- all the flavor in a handy wrapper. Pick up a can of crescent roll dough (the kind that you get to violently beat open), your favorite cheeses (I prefer rice cheese to avoid the animal fats), veggies, sauce, and whatever else! Wrap it all in the dough and bake at about 375° on a cookie sheet until everything is golden (literally). Your hands will stay tidy, your tummy will stay happy, and you won't have to tip that judgmental driver from Domino's.
Oreos
Oreos and I are pretty close. Some would call it love. Sweet as Christ and stuffed with Stuf, these sweets are practically my religion. But to quell the cookie monster in all of us, here are a few facts to keep in mind. First of all, Oreos aren't exactly low in calories. Each cookie would take about 7 minutes of walking to burn off, and that doesn't mean exploring the Capital Wasteland without teleportation. Oreos are also made with the same high fructose corn syrup and artificial vanilla you find in most grocery-store sweets, but Oreo actually advertises, through a regulation loophole, that they contain no trans-fats. Mostly, the problem with Oreos as game fuel is just the lack of nourishment. Most people say "Huh?" when they hear many Oreo varieties are vegan, but that's because Oreos have a lot of artificial ingredients.

Better bet: Newman O's baby, and not just because I love Cool Hand Luke. Newman O's may run a bit higher in calories and cost, but the ingredients are purer and organic. Still vegan, and so much less processed. They are available in tons of varieties, and they also come in smaller sizes so that you'll be less likely to snack yourself into an IRL grave (from which you can't respawn!). If you really want a snack that will nourish, try whole-grain graham crackers and a handful of frozen chocolate chips, or my fav, strawberries dipped in a little chocolate.
Happy noming!

I'm noticing the swear filter censors the "****" in "spicy" and the "****" in "cocktail." Best day ever?

You know, your advice is pretty damn good.
I ought to start substituting all or at least most of my Pizza Hut (I wish I had any other choice) orders for some calzones that I could just as easily prepare by myself. And it looks like I ought to keep a look out for Newman-O's... once I finish these Oreos. Â
I'm just glad I've shyed away from soft drinks and crisps.Â

Or just level your irl cooking skills and make the dough from scratch!
Lots of the newman's stuff has 'natural flavors' in them, which is can be just about anything. I'm a bit of a picky eater though.
I used to drink Blue Brainwash at tournaments a long time ago, looks like they changed the ingredients though.
Any kind of peppermint would probably be good before gaming, as it's been shown to raise test scores in people who eat them during an exam.

Yes sir, "natural" and "organic" are largely unregulated terms, so watch out. These cookies may be better than the Oreos, but if you want to go natural "leveling up the IRL cooking skills" and making some cookies on your own is the way to go. Great point Vir!

Would it be recommended to COMBINE say one of these items with another? Say,
cheetos AND wasabi peas or pizza AND calzones.
I think i do a lot of combining and throw some ice cream in the middle!

That sounds vaguely like what some Taiwanese chef would come up with.

I eat anything and everything at my pc, and as a result, my keyboard is filthy. I do regularly attempt to clean it, but I've been too lazy to take out every key and give it the loving it deserves. Just now I found a pepper corn sitting behind it from the pepper steak I had for dinner last night :P
No, I'm not crazy. I'm not.
My personal snack of choice is potato chips. Salt & Vinegar, BBQ or Cheese & Onion please. They aren't really pc friendly though, and I end up typing with one hand when eating them.
Cold meats also make great, non messy snacks. Like salami and ham. Just be sure to wipe the grease off your hands with a napkin, or use a fork like civilised people.

I like my panettone loaves with milk.
and lol newman-o's, i can never get myself to trying out similar food from a smaller time brand name. They're most likely better but heh..
I'm not sure if energy drinks work but, I was on Monster drinks for my exam seasons and i have to say it worked pretty well, even as a placebo effect. but yeah made me feel like **** after lol. and coffee... sick of it after working at a coffee shop and after the huge coffee downfall i just experienced.
Good read! Nice to read something slightly off topic!

Amateurs. The best way to get around the messyness of cheetohs is to eat them with a cup.
